Need a place for photos or files outside your phone or computer? Start with the device you use and the files you want to move. A small flash drive and a portable SSD serve different needs.

How to Choose
- Check the connector. Compare the drive’s plugs with your phone, tablet, or computer ports. A product title that names your phone model is not a substitute for checking the exact connection.
- Think about the files. A small flash drive can be convenient for selected photos and documents. A portable SSD is an option for larger folders and ongoing computer storage.
- Check the transfer steps. Apple explains how supported external devices appear in the iPhone Files app. Other phones and computers may have different requirements. Read Apple’s external-storage guide.
- Verify your copy. Open a few transferred files before deleting anything from the original device. Keep another copy of important files.
For a Samsung T9, check the details and USB requirements on Samsung’s product page. Actual transfer speed depends on the device and connection.
If Your Phone Is Already Full
External storage gives you somewhere to copy files, but it does not change your phone’s built-in capacity. Our five ways to free up phone space can help you find large downloads and unused apps before you buy anything.
Choose the connector and amount of space you need first. Then check the exact listing for compatibility, current price, and included cables or adapters.
